14 Weeks

Well the baby is 14 weeks along now and I have entered the second trimester. I had an ultrasound yesterday and the good news is the baby is growing right on schedule and his (or her) heart rate is strong. It’s beating at about 150 per minute. We got some good pictures of the baby and we can already see his little hands. The lab technician said that it was about a week too early to determine the gender but Michael is convinced he saw a little penis in there. We’ll have to wait 6-8 more weeks for the next ultrasound to know for sure. So that’s the good news….the not so good news is that they did find something that might be concerning in the ultrasound. My placenta is not where it is supposed to be. I guess this isn’t that uncommon and most of the time by the third trimester it corrects itself if I take care of myself now. It basically means absolutely no lifting anything and no exercise (I didn’t exercise anyway). We’ll have another ultrasound at 20 weeks and likely another one at about 28 weeks to determine if the placenta has moved. If it hasn’t it could mean some complications bed rest, early delivery and a definite c-section. After Max’s delivery I’m not sure a c-section would be such a bad thing. So for now we are going to focus on the fact that most of the time this goes away on its own. I’m very lucky Michael is around this pregnancy and is helping out a lot. Since I’m not supposed to pick up Max he has been taking bedtime and bath duties. I don’t think Max understands why mommy can’t pick him up. Max is also having a rough time of things as this past weekend we made the decision to get rid of his pacifier. We felt like he was becoming too dependent on it and we wanted to make sure it was gone before the baby came. So we have had a couple of rough nights, but he did do much better last night. He still cries for his ‘pabee’ a lot though. Hopefully he’ll soon learn he is not getting it no matter how hard he cries. He is talking quite a bit more now. Just so I don’t forget below are some of his favorite words.

Peeeese (please) ---This really means give me, but it’s so darn cute when he says it we usually give him what he wants.

No, No – This is usually followed by some finger pointing at mommy or daddy when we do something we are not supposed to do. This often happens when playing legos and daddy removes a piece he is not supposed to. I did catch him at daycare once doing this when he was tattling to the teacher that some other kids were doing something wrong.

Mo,mo (More) – The kid loves to eat. Almost always refers to more food.

Ne, ne (Again) - This one took us a while to figure out but when we do something he likes, he nods his head and says ne, ne.

Uuuice ( Juice) - He loves his juice.
