Bed Rest

We had our doctor's appointment yesterday and the good news is that nothing has changed. Still no contractions or dialation, but the doctor has put me on bed rest completely. Unfortunately for this appointment I had to get several shots and get some blood drawn for more routine testing. One of the shots was due to my RH factor. I have a negative blood type and this could cause complications with the next pregnancy if I don't get the shot. The doctor also recommended I get two rounds of a type of steroid to help with the baby's lung development in case I do go early. Hopefully I won't. Baby still needs to stay in there about 8 more weeks. This last shot was extremely painful and I have to go back to the doctor today to get the second round. I'm probably just being a wimp, but it really did hurt. Luckily Michael was there to hold my hand. I'm getting a little spoiled b/c he is in town this week. It's really great to have him around.

Unfortunately the doctor recommended that we not attend our baby classes. I think Michael and I are both a little bit nervous about skipping the classes so for all of you parents expect lots of phone calls when we have questions. :)

Tina, I'm sure you're having your fill of shots for awhile! Glad Michael could be with you. I believe you when you say it really hurt.
I'm sorry you guys won't be able to go to your baby classes. I'm sure though that Grandma Patty would be happy to answer any of your questions! (The rest of us would be happy to help out too.)
We think of you guys often and are praying that Baby Bontrager will wait to make his arrival until he's full term.
Take care.
Love,
Aunt Barb

Tina,
You and Michael will be amazed at how quickly your parental instincts will kick in. Every child is different and will respond different so there is really no text book way of taking care of an infant. Just a parents love and concern for their child. You will discover he has different cries for different things and you will just figure out what works best to soothe him. Also the nursing staff at the hospital will be so helpful to you and show you how to do anything you aren't sure about.
I am RH negative and had to go through what you did. Glad I didn't have to go through the roids though. Sorry it hurts so much!
Take care of yourself and our baby.
Love,
Aunt Amy

Hey Tina,
Please continue to take care of yourself. I am glad Michael is there to spoil you this week. :)
I remember having to have a shot every 2 weeks with Kathy to maintain the pregnancy, and I felt like everytime I headed north on SR 19 my car would kick into auto pilot and go to the doctors office. It's debateable, but I think Kathy turned out reasonably well.... and I'm sure your little fella will too.
Remember, Jeff is always available for diaper changing lessons.... and I feel like my great nieces and nephews might be the closest I ever get to being a grandma, so I would LOVE to help any time that I can!!
We will continue to keep you, Michael and the baby in our prayers.
Love,
Judy

Tina,
as you can see, my sisters are much bigger talkers than I am! But I agree with all the advice they are giving you:-)
