18 Weeks

I had my 18 week appointment yesterday and it was a very uneventful appointment. I’ve come to appreciate those, as they don’t seem to happen as often as I would like. The baby’s heart rate was strong at 150 and they start to measure my belly to make sure it’s growing like it should and it measured at exactly 18 weeks. Perfect! I’d also gained about 5 pounds since my last appointment which is also really good for me. The best part is we scheduled the ultrasound in 2 weeks, so we will find out if we are having a boy or a girl. I thought that I might want to wait this time to find out, but there’s no way I can wait. I have to know. The baby should weigh about 7 oz already. I am definitely getting bigger and my belly button has for sure popped out. I’ve gotten a lot of comments already this week commenting on how big I have gotten. We need to post some pictures.

We had some friends over for the super bowl and one of them had a six month old. It was so cute to see Max around the baby. He kept whispering ‘baby’ and he would try to sit really close and hand toys to the baby. Hopefully that means he will make the adjustment to big brother pretty easily. As Michael has mentioned he is sure getting fun. He has such a personality and it is just amazing to watch Michael with him. Max wants to be just like daddy. If daddy throws a ball, Max throws a ball. If daddy lies down, Max lays down. One thing is for sure, we definitely have to watch ourselves and eliminate any bad behavior as Max will pick it up quickly. He is also starting to count to 3. He hasn’t done it consistently but whenever we are driving to and from daycare I try to work with him. He’s got the one down, he says 2, but the fingers can’t quite make a 2 yet, and ‘tree’ (three). It’s pretty darn cute.

Michael and I celebrated our anniversary last night by going out to eat as a family. We tried a new restaurant that we hadn’t been to and it was pretty good. We ate a ton and it was free sundae night for kids. So Max was in heaven with his giant sundae. He loves ice cream, we were surprised when our waiter brought out cake and ice cream for us (they knew it was our anniversary) so after Max’s ice cream he of course wanted the cake too. We were a little surprised he actually went to bed, he was probably on such a sugar high.

On the way to the restaurant we also found out that Max really likes apples. Everyday at daycare they have a basket of something set out. It can be anything from crackers to crayons. Well last night it was apples. Max walked up to it and said 'apple' (I didn't know he knew that word), and he really wanted two. I convinced him one was all he needed. I thought he would act like it was a ball and want to throw it but after about 30 seconds in the car, Max got noticeably quiet (always a concern). I turned around and there he was chowing away on his apple. I didn't think he would be able to eat it. So for the next 30 minutes in the car on the way home and to the restaurant all we heard was 'Mmmm' and an occasional crunch. He was quite a sticky mess by the time we got to the restaurant.

And for those of you who are curious about the kitchen tile….jury is still out. It was a pretty close tie between the first and second picture. Michael likes the first and I like the second, but we are both ok with either option. He’s going to go get it over lunch today so we’ll see what he comes home with. He wants to get started this weekend but he is very nervous since this is his first project w/o his dad.
