Max is 9!

It is so weird to have Max turn 9.  He's still my baby isn't he?  Michael keeps reminding me, no.  Ughhh.  It goes by too fast. Max continues to love a new challenge and being active ALL THE TIME.  Michael loves this as he always has a little buddy to go exploring with.  He is smart and funny and we are so glad we get to have him in our lives.

This year was an interesting year for Max.  He started a new challenge program at school and it proved to be well a challenge.  He really wanted to do this, and I think now he is having second thoughts.  Max is a very logical, right/wrong personality type.  His new class is about teaching life long learners, asking questions, writing essays.  There were no multiple questions tests, few worksheets and lots and lots of papers.  He still struggles with not getting a perfect grade like he was used to last year.  He doesn't understand because his answers are correct, they are just better , more detailed answers.   Max truly believes that his job should be playing all day, every day and he shouldn't have to do homework.  That made homework time lots of fun for me.  I would get frustrated with him for not trying his very best, and just doing the minimum to get by.  But then I try to remember when I was eight I certainly wasn't writing papers, creating  and giving presentations.  This class was also a little difficult b/c the kids are separated from the rest of the kids in their grade.  It's a combined class with second and third graders so he missed seeing his friends from second grade.  The second graders in his class are going to be in his class for the remainder of elementary school.  He has developed some friendships and I hope next year it will be easier for him.  He is also a bit sad this summer as his best friends that lived across the street are moving out of state.  They played for hours every day.  Max rarely watches tv or plays video games because he would rather be playing and they were always wanting to play too.  We will miss them, and hopefully we will find something for Max to do all summer.

This year for Max's birthday we decided to keep it small and only allow him to invite a few friends.  We went to an Indy 11 soccer game and then had a slumber party after.   It was Max's first slumber party and he was a little pumped up.  We didn't get home until late on Saturday night and the boys were wound up.  We turned on a movie in hopes that would make them fall asleep.  Silly us.  At 1:00, 3 out of 5 of them had fallen asleep.  We told them they needed to go to bed, that worked for Max's friend, but at 2:30 I was woken by Max trying to open the boxes of his new presents.  Maybe he fell asleep around 3:00.  He had a blast and hopefully it will be something he will remember for a long time.

Happy Birthday to Max!! Sorry I will be late in getting his card and gift to him. For some reason, Max really reminds me of his dad when he was that age. :)
