It is hard to believe our baby is 8. I think this year was a great year for Max. He has always been super shy, but this year I think he really came out of his shell. At the beginning of the school year his report card said he was very quiet, but by the end of the year it said things like Max is so funny. I was even able to witness him cracking a few jokes (appropriately) when I volunteered in his classroom. I loved it, but I couldn't show it of course. Max has already entered the stage where he wants me around his school, but won't acknowledge my existence. Seriously? I thought I'd have a few more years of being tolerable, but I guess not. Max is super competitive kid....where did he get that from? Sometimes it serves him well and makes him try his best. At other times, the competitiveness can make it hard for him to have fun playing games if he is losing. I think he loves being the big brother and his brother and sister adore him. He can be so sweet at times when he is trying to help them learn something. He's also maturing so much that he's fun to have real conversations with. The other day I found a load of candy under his bed and I looked at him. And he said. Mom, I asked you if I could put there and you said yes. I said I don't remember that. He said, well right. When I want something I also ask when you are really tired or distracted so you don't really know what I'm asking you. Smart kid. :) I love you Max!
Max entered the digital age this year and got an IPad for his birthday. We got it so he could check out books from the library but there are definitely some games being played. We have a pretty strict 1 hour of screen time a day for video games or TV and I think that is going to be challenging to enforce. Max sure loves his games.
Michael coached Max's soccer team for the first time this spring. It was a bit of a rough season...I don't remember but I don't think they won again. It was a challenging team, but I think they had fun and that's what is important! A lot of Max's friends did baseball this spring, so a lot of his regular team was missing. This fall they are back and I think Michael is looking forward to resuming his assistant coach title.
This year for Max's party he had 16 boys to a facility that had flag football, dodge ball and whatever other sporty game you can play. I think the boys had fun but it amazed me how competitive and aggressive the games got. Some kids were really in it to win it. It's hard to believe these kids were just in first grade.

I was hoping you'd have an update on Max after his birthday. It IS hard to believe he is 8! Wish I could hear some of the jokes he cracks. Sounds like you're going to have to be on your toes when you're tired and Max is asking for something. :)
