Congrats Max!

It is hard to believe that a couple of months ago Max was doggy paddling around a pool barely staying afloat and now after daily practices he is a swimmer.  Last night was the last meet of the season, the invitation.  This is where 8 teams compete against each other, and the winner doesn't get a ribbon, he gets a medal!!  This is big time for a six year old.  The weather was a nice 100 degrees as we were watching Max.  All the 6 and unders swim breast stroke, freestyle and back stroke.  Max just learned breast stroke a couple of weeks ago, so we are just really happy that Max can swim the race without stopping.  For the invitational, the scores are combined from all 3 races and the top 9 or 10 get a medal.  There were about 25-30 boys swimming in the six and unders.  So I tried to prepare Max that he might not get a medal. This is our conversation.

Me:  You know Max there are lots of really good swimmers here and not everyone is going to get a medal, but you did great and the real prize is that you learned how to swim this summer.
Max:  So I'm not going to get a medal?
Me:  Well Max, I'm not sure you might get a medal you might not.  It just depends how everyone did, but you did great regardless.
Max:  So I am going to get a medal?
(He has a little trouble in dealing with the gray areas.  No idea where he gets that from.)
Me:  Max I'm not sure you might you might not.

He got bored w/ the conversation and moved on.

Here Max is preparing to dive into the pool.  Game face is on.
And here's the belly smack.
And look at that!!  Max got 8th place!  He was so excited!  He couldn't stop staring at his medal.  It was pretty cute.  Of course after the race he asked me, 'Mommy why did you think I wasn't going to get a medal?'  I can't win.  :)
