Confidence is key

The kids took tennis lessons this summer for the first time and have really enjoyed it.  Quite a few lesson were cancelled due to rain but they were still able to learn some stuff and have a good time.  They had match days a few times during the summer but we have never been able to make it.  We did it thru a program that had lessons all over the city and at then end of the program they had an end of year tournament for all of the kids. Bryce and Lila were up first and they did fantastic.  They won their first three matches but lost in the semi-finals so they didn't get a medal, which was pretty upsetting but they had a lot of fun.

Max was up next. If you know Max, you know he is overly confident in his athletic skills so he was pretty confident he was going to win the tournament.  I'm thinking 'really?  you have never even played a match in your life. you think you can just show up and win?'  This kid loves to prove me wrong.  He won his first 4 matches easily 2-0.  They played best 2 out of 3 tie breakers.  As we watched I could tell Max was against kids that came from tennis families.  Their older siblings played, their parents played and were coaching from the sidelines screaming tennis terms out that I had never even heard.  I'm thinking 'way to hit it over the net.'  Max's last match the coach had to stop the match b/c his opponent was crying.  The last match was close, 7-6, 6-7, 7-6.  Max won.
