24 Weeks - What a scare

I had my 24 week checkup on Thursday afternoon. Unfortunately it wasn't as routine as I was hoping for. I had felt a little bit of pressure so I mentioned it to my doctor, I didn't think it was a big deal. They checked me out and decided to do another ultrasound to make sure everything still looked good. While getting my ultrasound the technician rushed out of the room and came back with all of the doctors from the practice. I knew that wasn't a good sign. They were concerned that essentially my birth canal had gone from 4 cm to 1 cm in less than 4 weeks, meaning baby Bontrager was trying to make his way out way too soon! Stay in there little guy! Well the doctors started talking to me a mile a minute, saying that I needed to go see a high risk pregnancy specialist ASAP, she would probably put me in the hospital that night, I was to be on bed rest immediately they started telling me about different drugs that I needed to take to make the baby stronger because he was likely going to come early. Then they gave me a box of Kleenex because they expected me to start crying. I was way too scared to cry. So off to the high risk pregnancy specialist I went. Luckily Michael had started driving home from Batesville and was able to meet me at the specialist office. I waited nervously for the specialist and had the same ultrasound done again with a better machine. She seemed much more optimistic. She measured everything and said it looked good that my cervex was 4 cm. What a relief. She said that she had a better more high powered ultrasound machine and could see things better. I talked to my doctor on Friday and he took me off of bed rest and said he just needs to keep a closer eye on me and the baby but was hopeful that I would be able to carry him full term. So I am going to be going to the doctor every week or every other week for a checkup. I can resume normal activity, but need to take it easy for the rest of the pregnancy. They are still a little concerned, so please continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

Thank you for the prayers...it's easy for me to get caught up into thinking that this whole pregnancy process is a peice of cake (guess that's cause he's not growing in my belly!), but I am learning what a miracle pregnancy and birth really is. And Thursday night really made me aware of all the things that need to go perfect during this time so prayers can only help. Thanks again!
